A deep, generous bolster bed for a dog who just wants somewhere comfortable to flop.

8cm of bonded thermal fibre, raised sides on all four edges, a non-slip base, and a cover that comes off and goes in the machine. It is the bed most dogs would choose for themselves.

READ THIS IF YOUR DOG IS OLDER OR STIFF

This is not an orthopaedic bed and we are not going to imply otherwise. There is no foam core in it. It is thick bonded fibre, which is warm and deeply comfortable and will compress under a bony hip in a way foam does not.

If your dog is simply getting on and still moves easily, that is fine and they will love it. If your dog has diagnosed arthritis, is slow to rise, or has started choosing the floor over their bed, buy our Ultima orthopaedic bed or the Noodle instead. SIZE — MEASURE FIRST

Only the X-Large is listed here, and the numbers that matter are the internal ones, because the bolsters take up a lot of the footprint.

• External 86 x 82cm (34" x 32") — the floor space it takes up

Note the shape: this is close to square, unlike our Ultima X-Large which is 80 x 65cm internally. A dog who sprawls diagonally often prefers the Camden; a long dog who stretches out straight usually fits the Ultima better. Our guide on how to measure your dog for a bed covers doing it properly.

HONEST ANSWERS

Is it washable? Yes, cool wash, air dry. Do not tumble dry — heat flattens bonded fibre permanently and you will not get the loft back.

Will the sides stay up? The reinforced bolsters hold their shape better than most at this price, but any fibre-filled side softens with use. Shake and plump it when you change the bedding.

Which colour? Seven, including two winter shades. They are genuinely different fabrics rather than the same bed photographed under different lights.
