The bed for a dog who has stopped stepping over the edge of their own bed.

Every other bed we sell has bolster sides. They are a comfort for a dog who can still climb in easily and a genuine obstacle for one who cannot, and we say so on all three product pages. This is the answer to that problem: a flat 10cm memory foam mattress with nothing to step over.

WHY NO SIDES MATTERS MORE THAN PEOPLE THINK

A dog with painful hips or elbows lifts each leg less far than they used to. A 15cm bolster stops being a headrest and becomes a hurdle they have to plan for. What owners usually see is the dog sleeping on the floor beside a perfectly good bed, and read it as a preference.

It is usually not a preference. It is easier.

A flat mattress removes the decision entirely. They walk on and lie down.

THE FOAM IS THE THICKEST WE STOCK

10cm of dense memory foam, which is meaningfully more than the foam core in our bolster beds. That depth is what stops a bony elbow reaching through to the floor, and memory foam spreads weight rather than compressing under the heaviest point.

Press your palm hard into the middle of any bed you already own. If you can feel the floor, so can your dog.

SIZE — READ THIS PROPERLY

There are no bolsters, so for once the external size is the usable size. All 107 x 71cm of it is space your dog can lie on.

  • Large — 107 x 71cm, 10cm deep (42" x 28"), approx. 2.85kg

That is a larger lying area than the X-Large in either of our bolster beds, which give 80 x 65cm and 80 x 68cm internally. Measure your dog stretched out flat on their side, nose to base of tail. Dogs with stiff joints stop curling up, so the sprawled length is the number that matters — our guide on how to measure your dog for a bed covers doing it properly.

WASHING, WHICH IS BETTER HERE THAN ON OUR OTHER BEDS

The outer cover unzips on two sides and machine washes at 40°C. Our Ultima bolster bed is cool wash only, which we flag as a limitation on its own page, so this is a real improvement. There is also a removable water-resistant inner cover beneath it, so a spill or an accident does not reach the foam.

40°C still falls short of the 60°C needed to kill dust mites and flea larvae, and we would rather say that than let you assume otherwise. Our guide on how often to wash a dog bed explains what to do about that gap.

WHERE IT IS NOT THE RIGHT BED

Some dogs want the sides. Plenty of dogs sleep pressed against a bolster because they like something to lean on, and a nervous dog often prefers to feel enclosed. If yours curls into a corner of their current bed, buy a bolster bed instead — our Ultima is the one we would point you at.

It takes up a lot of floor. 107 x 71cm is a big flat footprint and it does not tuck into a corner the way a bolster bed does.

This is a final production run. Gor Pets are discontinuing the Sleeper once the remaining stock is gone. We would rather tell you that on the page than have you discover it when you come back for a second one. It is not a sales tactic — when it goes, it goes, and the colours will run out at different times.

It is not a treatment. A good bed reduces daily stiffness. It does not treat arthritis, and there is genuinely effective pain relief available from your vet. See arthritis in dogs. Get the pain treated, then get the bed right.
