Gor Pets Ultima Replacement Bed Cover - X-Large

A cover, not a bed. Worth being clear about that first.

This is the replacement outer for the Ultima bed in X-Large. It exists for the situation every owner of an older dog eventually reaches: the foam base is still perfectly supportive, and the cover is not.

WHY THIS IS THE SENSIBLE PURCHASE

A £60 cover on a bed whose base is sound beats a £140 replacement bed. Accidents, a wet dog after a walk, and years of washing all wear the cover out long before the foam gives up. Older dogs in particular are hard on covers, and that is the usual reason a bed gets thrown out while the part that does the actual work is fine.

It also means the dog keeps the bed they already know. Dogs are more attached to a familiar sleeping place than owners tend to credit, and swapping the cover is far less disruptive than swapping the bed.

WHICH SIZE, AND CHECK BEFORE YOU ORDER

This is the X-Large only. It fits an Ultima bed with an external footprint of 100 x 86cm (39" x 34"), internal 80 x 65cm.

If your Ultima is the Large — external 84 x 79cm — this will be too big and will sit loose. Measure the bed you own across its widest point before ordering rather than going by memory.

WHAT YOU GET, AND WHAT YOU DO NOT

• You get the removable outer cover in your chosen colour.
• You do not get the foam core, the inner cover, or a bed. This is a cover on its own.

Machine washable at a cool temperature. As with the bed itself, heat is the enemy of the fabric, and our guide on how often to wash a dog bed covers the awkward gap between the cool wash the label wants and the 60°C that actually kills dust mites and flea larvae. Having a spare cover is one of the few genuine answers to that: you can strip the bed and keep the dog on it while the other cover dries.
